What is your name, bra size, secret power?
Michelle, 12F, secret power: storytelling & sensitivity
Why did you apply to be in our customer video shoot?
The recent realisation that for 35 of my 45 years I have struggled with body confidence - and I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to get waaaaaaay out of my comfort zone and give recognition and acknowledgement to this body of mine; to take part in a campaign that embraces all body types.
What makes you happiest in life?
Connecting with others, watching my kids faces light up when they are describing/or doing something they are passionate about, date time with hubby, spending time in nature, music, writing, capturing images of seemingly simple moments, time with my soul-sister girlfriends.
What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
They would know I’m a huge talker and enjoy being with other people - but it might surprise some people to know how much I love time in solitude, in silence, to reflect and observe, to just be.
What did you enjoy most about your day on set?
All the fun and laughter with the other amazing women taking part, and the awesome crew.
Was there anything that surprised you about the day?
Although none of us had met each other before, we connected so easily and had similar stories and experiences to share.
How did it feel to be fitted and have a dance in your underwear in front of a camera?
The crew were all fantastic and supportive, but I was still really nervous and if I’m totally honest, still felt self-conscious though I’ve recognised that after so many years of speaking critically to myself and with body dissatisfaction, it would be unrealistic to expect not to have some feelings arise , both at the shoot and afterwards seeing images on social media.
Is there anything you learned from taking part in our customer video shoot?
To do with bras - the huge variance in sizes depending on different styles, shapes, cuts! And more personally, I learnt that you can do things you never thought you’d have the confidence to do and that many of us have had challenges at different times with body confidence.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to others learning to embrace their bodies?
Be kind and compassionate to yourself as you journey through learning to embrace - notice your inner dialogue and how you talk to yourself internally, and with gentleness take one step at a time focussing on gratitude for this body we get to call home and all it does for us each day. Plus there are some awesome body positive accounts in the world of social media to follow for extra encouragement.
What does beauty mean to you?
I appreciate more with every passing year that beauty goes far beyond our exterior. Beauty is an inner spark, your own unique glow, authenticity, your smile, the twinkle in your eye, the confidence to be in your own skin, not always taking yourself too seriously, and in how you treat others.
What’s your favourite go-to Rose & Thorne bra, and why?
Love the En Forme Enhanced Support range. Fits perfectly every time and gives great shape for fuller bust - plus all the beautiful patterns! My fave at the moment is the pastel floral.
